Tuition

Program fees

The Master of Public Service program is designated a professional graduate degree. Students can expect to pay approximately $16,000 for the 20-month, full-time program, plus Co-op fees (approximately $585 per co-op term). Professional programs such as MPS do not offer internal (uWaterloo) funding in the form of scholarships or teaching or research assistantships.

Co-op earning opportunity

During the 20-month program, MPS students will be able to offset tuition fees with earnings from their 8-month co-op work term. As an example, Co-operative Education & Career Action collects general information on pay rates for federal government co-op jobs.

External financial support

Potential MPS applicants with a GPA of 80% or more are encouraged to apply for an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) in the Fall, nearly one year prior to starting the MPS program. The application deadline for Fall 2012 is October 19, 2011. When filling out the proposed program details, please use the following information: Proposed Discipline — Management and Administrative Studies; Proposed Department — Public Service; Proposed Division — Social Sciences.

MPS incoming students can apply for an OSAP loan, and also for UW bursary assistance when an OSAP loan is not sufficient. Please note: a typical OSAP application will normally take 6 weeks to process; an application which may require special consideration could take 8 to 10 weeks to process.

Check out Waterloo's office for Student Awards and Financial Aid for more information on financial support.
